Two Twelve’s wayfinding and signage system for Children’s Hospital Boston, one of the nation’s leading pediatric medical centers, utilizes environmental graphics and symbols to leverage a universal, comprehensible language throughout, helping create a peaceful and comfortable environment for patients and visitors alike.
The new system aims to make a visit as friendly and uncomplicated as possible, providing visitors with the information they need, where and when they need it. The first phase of the sign system incorporates a distinctive use of language, colors, symbols and forms to clearly engage and communicate with both adults and children. The resulting system transcends barriers of language and color-blindness. One of the central elements of Two Twelve’s designs is the donor program: we developed a playful design that incorporates colorful Petri dishes sized according to the gift. The designed system helps over 450,000 patients, families, visitors and hospital staff members annually navigate the hospital’s five-building main campus.
