When the New York City Police Department (NYPD) underwent construction to form a consolidated training facility for officers and recruits, Two Twelve joined the project to develop a comprehensive and recognizable signage design for the site. Our team researched the history of the NYPD graphics as it appeared throughout multiple generations of police vehicles in order to select a typeface that the public associates most with the NYPD brand. Our design solution combines bold typefaces that emulate the NYPD spirit with an architectural material palette of perforated metal pulls. The design of over-scaled room identification panels pull directly from the architectural CMU block wall pattern creating a visual synthesis with the built environment.
