With more than 3 million annual visitors who journey to Memphis, Tennessee to bike, walk, explore and play, Shelby Farms is one of the largest urban parks in the US and the world. At a size of 4,500 acres, it covers more than five times the area of Central Park in New York City. The diversity of the parks’ users and landscape influenced our signage designs. The bold colors and custom suite of symbols part of our wayfinding and signage program convey the lively character of the Park and speak to visitors of all ages, making it a comfortable yet invigorating experience.
Building off the framework developed by James Corner Field Operations in the Shelby Farms Master plan, Two Twelve developed a Wayfinding Master Plan that provides an organizational framework for locating signage across the Park and Greenline landscapes. Informed by our wayfinding strategy, we created a distinctive, consistent wayfinding and signage program that complements the diverse character of the park, is also sustainable and allows for easy updates as the Park continues to expand. The result is a flexible system that is user-friendly, accessible, and enhances visitor engagement with the Park.
